Gun patents often intrigue me. I think it's because so many are geared towards making the hunting experience accessible to the lazy.

This is a patent on an exploding target. You shoot it, it blows up, you know you've got a hit. The thing is, you have to mix the volatile chemicals and prepare the target first. Better do the lab work before cracking open the six-pack.

HAHA... greg the end of your statement was kinda funny... said "jealous" Daniel created this website and what's not to bash? What good does an exploding target do for mankind? I'll admit it's pretty cool but that's what this website is about, showcasing the cool and useless inventions whilst at the same time making fun of ultranerds such as yourself.

that stuff is the coolest thing i have ever seen. You should see what it dose to a railroad tie.

My apologies, "volatile" was the incorrect word. The thing doesn't blow up "at normal temperatures and pressures." I'll have to settle for "explosive". I got nailed by the vocabulary vigilante.

Oh, and if I may outdork you, it is the force of the projectile, not its velocity which detonates the mixture.

Keep in mind though that the inventor states that when the ingredients are mixed, the combination is "classified by federal regulations as a hazardous material and as an explosive." I'll take your word for it that the mixture can safely be thrown into fire.

The author of this article titled "Binary Exploding Target, Package Process And Product" has obviously not read or seen anything with regards to this product. The definitions of volatile are: evaporating readily at normal temperatures and pressures; "volatile oils"; "volatile solvents" explosive: liable to lead to sudden change or violence; "an explosive issue"; "a volatile situation with troops and rioters eager for a confrontation" fickle: marked by erratic changeableness in affections or attachments; "fickle friends"; "a flirt's volatile affections" tending to vary often or widely; "volatile stocks"; "volatile emotions" a volatile substance; a substance that changes readily from solid or liquid to a vapor; "it was heated to evaporate the volatiles" This product has no such characteristics. You can mix the componants together and toss them in a fire and nothing will happen. The characteristics of the two componants when mixed together requires a high velocity (and I mean high, pistol ammo frequently will not cause detonation) impact, typically from a rifle projectile. It appears that this person is simply jealouse. Rather than produce something, they sit around and bash others who do.
