Apparatus for Harnessing Wind to Drive a Bicycle

patent#: US 6932368

If yesterday's "Wind-Assisted Bicycle" wasn't enough for you, this invention should sate your appetite for wind powered bicycles. Who knew there were so many people working on this technology?

Inventor Vladimir Zam, gets seriously old-school with his design, rigging his bike with a triangular sail. How the heck can one person operate this thing? As if sailing and bicycling don't require enough concentration on their own... And what if the wind changes direction and the boom comes around? Aren't you just asking to be smacked the seat? I need to see it to believe it.

Even if it doesn't work, I will always have the patent illustration to delight me.

Let's face it bicycling is hard work. It's great not to be able to go from A to B without burning any fossil fuels, but how about a little help? Can we work an environmentally friendly push into the picture?

Contrary to just about every development in bicycle technology over the last, I don't know, hundred years, this bicycle purposely ADDs wind resistance in a desperate attempt harness Mother Nature's exhale. I'm not quite sure what what will happen if the wind should suddenly change direction, but let's cross our fingers and hope the inventor thought this through. You may not be able to weave in and out of traffic, but you will be able to plow over any pedestrian that gets in your way.
